Following is a list of adult literacy resources in the Greater New York area:

  • Literacy Partners
    provides a variety of free adult literacy services, including classes in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Pre-GED, and Financial Literacy.

  • Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs
    promotes the full and active participation of immigrant New Yorkers in the civic, economic, and cultural life of the City.

  • Brooklyn Public Library
    offers thousands of public programs, millions of books and use of more than 850 free Internet-accessible computers.

  • Queens Public Library
    serves a book-hungry population of 2.2 million from 63 locations plus 6 Adult Learning Centers in the most ethnically diverse county in the U.S.

  • New York Public Library
    provides free and open access to its physical and electronic collections and information, as well as to its services.

  • National Literacy Directory
    helps individuals find local literacy and English education programs and GED testing centers in their areas.

  • New York City 311
    allows customers to call one easy-to-remember number in order to receive information and access to City government services.

  • Literacy Assistance Center
    dedicated to supporting and promoting the expansion of quality literacy services in New York.
